Holders often distribute backups between a home safe, a bank box, and a trusted relative’s custody. Each choice reduces one risk and introduces another: heirs must know which fragment lives where without opening sealed material prematurely.
Documentation should describe the purpose of each site, access hours, required identification, and which envelope contains labels versus recovery shards. Photographs of seed phrases belong nowhere in this process.
We recommend a single index page at the front of the binder listing sites in recovery order, not alphabetical order. Alphabetical lists feel tidy but mislead heirs during sequential recovery.
When a site changes—bank branch closure, relative relocation—schedule a revision before resealing the binder. Stale addresses waste critical days.
